The new law is effective from 25 May and is the first of its kind in Spain's democratic history. Among other things, it imposes new restrictions on rent increases and evictions. To increase the number of private longt term rental properties, it introduces tax cuts for property owners who rent out their homes and increases in local property taxes for those who choose to leave their homes empty.
